Choose DIY for creative control, a custom service for a specific story or animation, or a platform to skip editing. Compare the cost, work and limits below.

Dear Ever publishes this comparison of photo slideshows for wedding playback. Wedding-day filming is outside its scope. Prices below are named examples with conditions, rather than market averages.

1. DIY: what can free tools do?

These two starting points suit different working styles. You can start without software fees using the free plan and your own or free assets. Test an export before editing the full film.

DIY gives you control and can look good. The work includes keeping fonts and transitions consistent, letting photos stay long enough to read, and avoiding crops that cut out important people. Consider it for detailed captions, mixed video clips or frame-by-frame choices. If you do not want those tasks, check whether a fixed style already meets your needs.

How long should a first attempt take?

We do not have a measured beginner average. For 30–40 already organised photos, a roughly 3–4-minute film, one visual style and one revision, use this 2–4-hour hands-on planning example:

This is an editorial planning estimate, not a measured average or completion promise. Add time for learning, collecting and scanning photos, finding music, export processing and venue testing. Time a ten-photo trial before committing to the whole film.

2. Commissioning: distinguish template work from custom production

A production company or photographer may suit a specific wedding theme, script, voice-over or animation. Ask whether the quote covers an existing template or a design made for you. Both involve a person, but the work differs.

For example, IMAGIN Workshop's childhood slideshow service lists HK$880 standalone or HK$580 with photography, up to 35 photos and under five minutes, with a first draft in five working days. Each additional ten photos costs HK$100. This listed service does not establish a fully custom price.

Fully custom pricing depends on the script, animation and revision scope. Request quotes for the same photo count, length and special requirements. If you have booked wedding photography, check whether a slideshow is already included and whether you like its style.

A good fit: a specific story or visual requirement, with time to brief a producer. A weaker fit: you only want an existing look, or want to swap photos and review each change yourself.

3. Platforms: let a defined style handle the editing

These platforms typically ask you to choose a style, upload photos, add names and arrange the order. Some still require timeline editing, so compare the actual workflow behind the word “automatic”.

With Dear Ever, choose and upload your photos to create a cinematic wedding slideshow automatically. You do not need to edit clips, synchronise music or design transitions. People and photo content are preserved. You choose the photos, arrange them and check the names.

Unlimited free previews before payment; pay when you are happy. The watermark-free 1080p MP4 costs HK$599 per film. Under the current terms, delivery is within three working days after payment, with one free name or photo-order revision within 14 days of delivery. Price and preview scope checked on 10 October 2026; see what the plan includes.

A good fit: you like the full demonstrations and want to spend your time choosing memories. A weaker fit: you need frame-by-frame custom editing, a bespoke script, narration or wedding-day filming. Those are outside Dear Ever's fixed plan. Check the create page for current service availability.

Copy this checklist before comparing quotes

  1. Total price: standalone or bundled with photography? Per film or subscription? What do extra photos, rush delivery and revisions cost?
  2. Scope: existing style or custom design? Photo count and film length? Voice-over or mixed video clips?
  3. Before payment: can you preview your own film, or only another demo? What can you change?
  4. Final file: downloadable, watermark-free 1080p MP4? Revision and download deadlines?
  5. Timing and use: draft and final delivery dates? Time for the venue playback checks? Separate music restrictions for public social posting?

Compare the results using the same photos, then consider the work and total price. For photo selection and ordering, continue to the preparation guide.
